The NPD Group is scheduled to push out a its December sales data on Thursday, which (usually) means the console manufacturers might also share hardware data. In her preview note, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter told me that Wii likely led sales with 2.6 million units sold, which represents a 32% decline for any platform. More interesting, however, is this
xbox 360 controller generally seems to have significantly outsold
ps3 wireless controller.
According to Pachter's estimates, Ps3 saw a 91% boost to two.5 million units sold, whereas Sony's PS3 fell 12% and sold just 1.Two million.
"We expect strong sales for ones Xbox 360 elite as a consequence of Kinect, and now we think Kinect console bundles sold especially well. PS3 sales have to be down, as sales from Move are unlikely to offset difficult comparisons from last September's price cut," he said. "Given competition belonging to the other consoles in addition to disclosed by Nintendo, we feel that this Wii had another down month. We expect Nintendo DS hardware sales also to still struggle until the introduction for the Nintendo 3DS in March."
Overall for your industry, Pachter expects the upward trend from the past couple months to stay. Software sales are hoped for to increase slightly in December to $2.63 billion (a 2% bump), led by Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty: Black Ops, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Just Dance 2, and Nintendo's Donkey Kong Country Returns and Wifit Plus.
